6K Broken!
almost 3 years ago – Thu, Jul 15, 2021 at 11:19:26 PM

Not a stretch goal, but still a marker worth celebrating, and we will do it with a peek.

5e blindness options:

Feats (5E)

Blind Hero

You have spent a portion of your life without sight of any kind. Through practice and effort, you have learned to navigate as proficiently as any sighted person.  You gain the following benefits

  • You have the blinded condition. This condition may not be removed. It isn’t something that needs to be fixed, this is you.
  • You can sense the location of creatures and objects within 5 feet of you. This is called blindsense. This range increases by 5 feet each time you gain a feat or ability score increase. Creatures may still attempt to use stealth to deceive you as normal. This sense is based on sound and vibration. If you are Deafened, then you are completely unable to detect your surroundings except by touch.
  • As a bonus action, you may double the range of your blindsense and gain advantage on your next Perception or investigation check made before the end of your next turn.
  • Your blindness does not hinder you in combat. If you can detect a creature with your blindsense, then you neither grant advantage to their attacks nor suffer disadvantage to your attacks against them. This effects only bonuses and penalties due to vision and no other combat adjustments. This applies to both melee and ranged attacks.
  • If you can physically touch raised or embossed script, you can read it if you understand the language.

Special: You may begin play with this feat at first level even if you do not normally begin with a feat. This is a part of who your character is by birth or by incident, not something you just felt like doing. If you become blinded through play, discuss with your DM whether taking this would be appropriate for your character going forward.

Blind Spells

5E

Raise Script

1st level transmutation (ritual)

Casting Time: 1 action

Range: Touch

Components: V, S

Duration: Instantaneous

Class: Universal

A brief request to Luminace is not required, but some insist it is the best and proper way of it. In either event, the text you touch, be it on a book or other written medium, raises just enough to feel, allowing blind people to read the text, provided they understand the language.

---------

We made options for blindness in all three systems. In Pathfinder, you can even go for 'mostly blind but not entirely' if that's your jam. The important part being that this is a part of a hero, that being you. You can rise to be just as much a champion as anyone else, but we don't forget that you are what you are. You can be both of these things!

Thanks for standing, or swimming, with us. Together we may yet reach the bottom of the sea! Looking forward to the next milestone.

David

Another Kickstarter

As much as we want your eyes over here, we creatives have to stick together. We all win as we work together, right? So how about some maps! From them:

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/laidbackdm/maps-your-party-will-die-for-3-the-wild-book-and-maps

Need maps? How about 36+ interconnectable village, wilderness and ruin maps perfectly sized for Roll20? And how about a DM’s Workbook to plan your fae forest, dread moor, river run, haunted hills, frontier village, lost temple, or to keep notes during live play? How about a Royalty Free License to use the maps in your own commercial and non-commercial projects?

MAPS YOUR PARTY WILL DIE FOR 3: The WILD offers all this and more! 3 Stretch Goals have been unlocked so far with lots more to come!
Pledges start at around $7.50 US for the DM’s Workbook PDF + POD code, or approximately $15 US for the DM’s Workbook (PDF + POD) + Digital Maps Package. Now that’s a bargain!
Check out this project before it ends at

Cheers,

Steve

Back from me! Let's share the love and grow the RPG sphere for everyone involved. Speaking of that, we are inching upwards towards the next stretch. I can't wait! Thank you all.

Stretch!
almost 3 years ago – Sun, Jul 11, 2021 at 07:51:06 AM

Good morning! We did it!

We got more art to pretty up the book with, but the next goal has a bit more crunch. That crunch might be you, or your players, depending on what side of the GM screen you sit. This is two additional monsters, on top of the other monsters that are lovingly crafted for you. They'll each get an illustration and be covered for all three systems, of course. Let's get that and make the deeps a little more dangerous. Of course, sometimes monsters aren't entirely hostile. Care to reach out a hoof towards the unknown? Not everything thinks you're tasty.

Meanwhile, a little thing we offered that we don't do often, but might have been overlooked.

Look at this adorable pin. Over an inch wide and cute enough to melt ice.  Add $15 to your pledge and it is yours.(shipping will be asked for later).

Be sure to spread the word. There are people out there that just don't know this is happening, and only together can we fix that.

I See What You Did
almost 3 years ago – Fri, Jul 09, 2021 at 11:46:47 PM

We broke 4k! Well on the way to the next goal. It's time for a preview!

I wanted to explore a bit of inclusion that often gets nudged to the side, but wanted something that fit the depths, and I decided on vision impairment. In the dark reaches, sight is not always the #1 sense about.

In Darkness Seen

Not every adventurer has their eyes open to the colors of the world. The deepest reaches of the ocean has little light for anyone to see by, and some are born without that ability. Of course, this happens on dry land as well. Without sight, other senses sharpen to make up for the lack. Diminished in one way, but not overall, blind adventurers remain adventurers, and can rise to greatness.

Blindness Feats (PF)

Blind

Exactly as it implies, you were born without sight, or lost it at an early age. You may never see, but you are not helpless.

Prerequisites: Blind(taking this feat at 1st level makes you blind. This blindness cannot be cured without a wish or equally powerful magic)

Benefit: You gain the Blind-Fight feat. You also gain a new sense, able to detect creatures and features by sound within 5 feet. This increases by 5 feet at 3rd level and every 2 levels beyond it. Creatures without a physical presence are invisible to you, nor can you discern colors or fine details through this sense. You do not take the usual penalties to Armor Class and Strength– and Dexterity-based skill checks and on opposed Perception skill checks. All checks and activities that rely on vision (such as reading and Perception checks based on sight) still automatically fail. All opponents are considered to have concealment (20% miss chance) against you. If you can physically touch raised or embossed script, you can read it if you understand the language.

Also, we've taken the feedback of the last book to heart. 5e will be getting a lot more love and fairness in the feat department, so it was not left behind on this.

This is the barest tip of this iceberg. We went all out. Spells and other options await in the final version.(There is pf2 stuff too, have no fear)

Still with me? Spread the word of the kickstarter, so we can nail all those goals and make this book the best it can be!

First: Yay! Thank you all so much! You all came together to get us to the first of our targets. The book will now officially be a thing. It's in! But... what's that in the darkness? More art? I do like art, and I think you do too. Our artists are lovely sorts that help bring Ponyfinder to life, and the next stretch goal pushes more budget towards them to bring class-based art to really bring to vibrant color the sea options we plan to offer. Let's reach for it! Spread the word. Tell your friends, tell your relatives!

Relatedly: We added a new tier, the aquatic scholar at $150. Get a character bio, character drawn, and 2 spells (which will be done up for all 3 systems!) on top of getting the book!

Let's see what hides in the depths.

Swimming strong,

David
